Welcome to the Patient Summaries Working Group

Overview

This group is a collaborative forum focused on the creation, distribution, and consumption of patient health record summaries in Canada. It does this by enabling coordination and knowledge sharing on the definition of meaningful patient summaries, including required data elements, applicable standards, and technical interoperability considerations across the summary lifecycle. This matters because consistent, standards‑based patient summaries support continuity of care and reliable information sharing across care settings and systems.

Ultimately, this work helps participants align Canadian approaches to patient summaries with clinical needs and interoperable health information exchange.

Who it’s for

Intended for jurisdictions, vendors, clinicians, policymakers, researchers, and standards organizations involved in Canada’s digital health ecosystem who design, implement, or rely on interoperable patient summary solutions.
