Overview
The Patient Summary Working Group is a pan-Canadian collaborative forum focused on advancing the development and use of interoperable patient summaries, based on the pan-Canadian Patient Summary (PS-CA) and aligned with the International Patient Summary (IPS). It brings together stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem to align on what constitutes a meaningful patient summary, including core data elements, technical standards, and approaches to implementation.
Through regular engagement, the group supports coordination and knowledge sharing across the full patient summary lifecycle, from creation to exchange and use. This work helps ensure that patient summaries are consistent, standards-based, and fit for real-world clinical use, enabling more seamless and reliable information sharing across care settings and systems.
The working group contributes to a unified approach to patient summaries in Canada, aligned with clinical needs and broader interoperability efforts, both nationally and internationally.
Who it’s for
This working group is intended for jurisdictions, vendors, clinicians, policymakers, researchers, standards organizations, and patients involved in Canada’s digital health ecosystem who design, implement, or rely on interoperable patient summary standards within clinical systems and workflows.
