Overview
This group is a collaborative forum focused on advancing the implementation of FHIR® across Canada. It does this by enabling coordination and knowledge sharing on pan‑Canadian approaches to constraining, extending, and applying FHIR through shared implementation practices and workstreams. This matters because consistent, harmonized FHIR implementations reduce variation and support interoperable data exchange across jurisdictions and solutions.
Ultimately, this work helps align Canadian implementations with each other and with global FHIR practices to support scalable interoperability.
Who it’s for
Intended for jurisdictions, vendors, clinicians, policymakers, researchers, and standards organizations involved in Canada’s digital health ecosystem who design, implement, govern, or support FHIR‑based interoperability solutions.

Workstreams that meet under FHIR Implementations Community
Workstream:
Canadian Baseline
Co-Chairs:
Sheridan Cook (Accenture)
Elliot Silver (ResMed)
Objective:
To expose the implementation guide author community and vendor community to a set of national base profiles that identify the data elements, code systems, and value sets that are commonly present across Canada for a given FHIR resource (for example, patient, medication, etc.), regardless of use case, jurisdiction, or implementation.
Additional Details:
Meetings approximately alternate between governance and profiling topics.
A number of unballoted releases have been published.
Work is in progress toward being balloted under HL7 Canada.
